Solving Plastic Pollution

At Alterra, we’re dedicated to giving plastics a new life.

Plastic shouldn’t be discarded after a single use. Yet much of it ends up in landfills, incinerators, or the environment because of gaps in collection and sorting that prevent all plastics from entering recycling systems. We transform discarded plastic into reusable raw materials that can be used to create new products again and again, helping keep materials in use longer and out of landfills.

The Problem of

Plastic Pollution

Plastic is part of everyday life, but most of it is never recycled. In fact, less than 10% of discarded plastic is successfully recycled worldwide.

Many plastics, like flexible packaging, films, and mixed materials, are difficult for traditional recycling systems to process. As a result, millions of tons of plastic end up in landfills, incinerators, rivers, and oceans every year.

The Solution to Plastic Pollution

Our Plastic Recycling Technology Process

At Alterra, we transform plastics that are often considered too difficult to recycle through conventional methods.

Unlike traditional recycling, which mechanically melts and reshapes plastic, our patented process converts hard-to-recycle plastics back into reusable raw materials for creating new products. Our approach supports closed-loop recycling, where plastic doesn’t become waste, but instead is part of a continuous cycle.

Our Plant

Responsible, Scalable Recycling

We engineered, designed, and built the world’s first truly continuous plastic circularity plant.

It is designed as a modern, enclosed industrial operation built to meet or exceed current environmental and safety standards.

We go beyond standard requirements through frequent monitoring, third-party testing, and rigorous process safety programs that help ensure clean, safe, and well-controlled operations.

Unlike many older industrial facilities, Alterra is built for today’s environmental expectations, with systems designed for responsible performance, transparency, and compliance.

By recovering value from plastic that would otherwise be discarded, we help reduce waste while operating safely within the community.
